TerraTaste sells premium kitchenware on Shopify — handcrafted cutting boards, specialty cooking tools, and ceramic sets. Their products are built to last and look great, but that quality is hard to communicate through photos alone.

The Challenge

At 1.8% conversion, TerraTaste was underperforming relative to the quality of their products. Customer feedback told the same story: people were surprised by how much nicer items were in person. The online experience wasn’t capturing the weight of a good knife, the grain of a cutting board, or the finish on a ceramic bowl.

Photos showed what the products looked like. They didn’t show what they felt like.

What They Did

TerraTaste went all-in on showing their products in action:

Product Demo Videos — Short clips on every product page showing kitchenware being used: a chef’s knife slicing through ingredients, a cutting board being washed, a ceramic set arranged for a dinner party. Each video answered: “What’s it actually like to use this?”

Overhead Cooking Clips — Quick recipe snippets filmed from above, showcasing the kitchenware in real cooking scenarios. These served double duty as product demos and aspirational content.

Overlay Widget — A floating video on collection pages featuring their weekly “Staff Pick.” Non-intrusive, but it caught attention and drove clicks to featured products.

They started with 12 videos across their best sellers. Setup took an afternoon — no code, no developer needed.

Results

Within the first month:

• Conversion rate went from 1.8% to 2.7% — a 50% improvement
• Average order value grew by 19% — video-engaged customers frequently added complementary items
• Bounce rate dropped by 22% — visitors stayed to watch and explore instead of leaving
